John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
The disciples were filled with grief and fear of the though of Christ leaving them. To calm these fears Jesus spoke these words of comfort to them. These words apply to His Saints today who remain humbled and steadfast in faith and prayer. Christ assures them that they shall be clothed with powers sufficient to bear them out. As Christ has all power, they, in his name, should have great power, both in heaven and in earth. Did Christ heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead? So should they and so should all Saints who dedicate themselves to prayer, longsuffering, ardent prayer. The church has lost its power during these latter days. Why? Where are the praying pastors? Where are the praying laymen? Where are the praying believers? Are you praying for your pastor daily? Prayer is the greatest and most valuable gift we receive as believers in Jesus Christ. Sadly, followers rarely pray today. Yes, most leaders open each sermon with prayer but how much time do they, do you, spend alone with God in the closet, searching, seeking and longing for His presence, His truth, His power to endure through all things? Payson wore the hard wood boards into grooves where his knees pressed so often, so long. Brainerd said; "I love to be alone in my cottage, where I can spend much time in prayer. William Bramwell is famous in the Methodist annals for the marvelous answers to his prayers. He would pray for four hours at a time. Bishop Andrews spent five hours every day in prayer and devotion. Sir Henry Havelock always pent the first two hours of each day alone with God. Earl Cairns rose daily at six o'clock to secure and hour and a half for Bible Study and prayer. David's heart was ardent after God. He hungered and thirsted and sought God early, before daylight. He prayed three times each day no matter what worldly circumstances arouse. We NEED a generation of preachers, of laymen and women, of Saints who seek God and seek Him early. Those who will seek Him with all their strength, with all their might and secure in return the freshness and fullness of his power that he may be as dew to us, full of gladness and strength through all things. No man gets God who does not follow after Him. Our laziness in seeking the Lord in our secret place is our greatest sin. I desire the presence, the power and the glory of my Almighty, Loving, Merciful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Do You?

Wishing You A Blessed Christmas & New Year!
May we enter into this Christmas Season with joy, love and gratitude for the many blessings that we have been given. I pray that as you read this you will realize all of the wonderful blessings you’ve been given and take this time to thank the Lord for each and every one of them. Just to name a few; we have our health to be thankful for, our friends and families, our jobs, a nice home to go to each night with a warm fluffy pillow to lay our head down on and blankets to cuddle up in by the fire, and yes, we have our church! Sadly, this just isn’t enough to keep most happy in this world which we live. As I entered into the stores these past few weeks to purchase book shelves and other resources for our church and bookstore, I watched as people scrambled to load their carts with gifts. A closer look revealed that most of what they contained was unnecessary and even silly at best. As I watched, the Lord reminded me of the small plastic bag that I receive every year from our mission ministry headquarters in Haiti. It is a one gallon zip lock bag in which we ship gifts for the children we support. Each child receives one zip lock bag filled with their needs for the next year. Somehow, through prayer and learned skill, I manage to stuff underwear, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shirts, socks, shoes, a brush & comb, and even a small toy or doll, managing to zip it just short of breaking open at the seams. This small bag, filled with their needs, just doesn’t seem right. How in the world can that be enough? Yet it is. We receive pictures each year of them as they open their gifts. The smiles on their happy little faces prove they cannot contain their joy! Each year they send me a thank you note and tell me that they know that Jesus is sending them both gifts of blessings and love through me. Wow! Just think about that for a minute….. How would you feel if I handed you a plastic bag filled with these items, unwrapped, and wished you Merry & Blessed Christmas? How would our families and friends react receiving such gifts? Yet these children are the happiest that they will be all year on this day of Christmas blessings as they celebrate the Jesus Christ that they have come to know through our missionaries. They live in tai pai’s (thatched huts) and sleep on dirt which turns into mud as the rain pours through their grass roofs. Momma’s huddle around their babies trying to keep them dry from the pouring rains. When they receive these gifts through the love of Jesus they realize that they are loved by a Mighty God! They have never been blessed with anything new before. My heart breaks for the Christmas that we’ve created in America. Rarely do we even see Christ in Christmas nor do we hear, “Merry Christmas” when we check out at store registers. We no longer want to acknowledge Christ yet these little children know that Jesus Christ loves them so much that HE uses people like you and me to send them new underwear and toys. Jesus uses you and me to send them to school and give them the only hot meal that they’ll have that day. Many children feel guilty knowing that they receive these blessings while their parents and siblings are left without because no one has come forward to sponsor them. I ask each of you to celebrate Jesus this year by leaving out one gift that you would have purchased and instead, bless a little child. My daughters began this tradition when they gave up their gifts five years ago to adopt their two sisters in Haiti and we now have an entire village that we try to bless. One thousand dollars purchases a Wii and accessories in America while the same can medicate, de-worm and feed an entire village, saving hundreds of lives. Just think, you can save a life this Christmas! There is no greater gift. Jesus is love. He loves us so much that He gave His life upon that old rugged cross for us, that we may have eternal life. Through His shed blood we have forgiveness of our past sins and are made new in Him and empowered by Holy Spirit. I pray Holy Spirit fills you where you are this very moment as He creates within you the person He has ordained for you to become this New Year. 2008 is a year of “New Beginnings”. May we enter in with Thanksgiving, with love and gratitude for all that we have been given. May we take a small portion of our blessings to bless another and share the same love we’ve received through His precious grace and mercy. God ordained the birth of Jesus Christ that we may have unending love, not commercialism. His birth was preordained knowing the end result was that He would soon shed His blood for our sins. God has preordained you, His precious child, so that you may love and serve Him with all your heart, soul and mind. I can only imagine the precious tears that He sheds as He watches us from above as we spend, spend, spend knowing that He has so many other precious children that are left without, starving and yes, dying by the thousands daily. All they want is for their little bellies to stop hurting. The worms are eating them up from the inside out. They eat rocks, mud and even feces to stop the pain, causing death to begin slowly and painfully. As I pray for each of you every day, I pray that the Lord will bless you with overflowing abundance so that you can become all that He has preordained you to be. I pray that you will be that blessing this next year that these little children have been praying for, to the Jesus that they’ve come to know and love with all their hearts. Enter into to this Christmas with love in your hearts. Tell someone you love them. It may be the only time in their lives that they’ve heard those words. Take an hour each week and volunteer at our after school youth ministry where we have prepared a safe place for our youth to gather after school each day for Spiritual healing, counseling and a much needed friend. Join with us as we sponsor an entire village where meals, food supplies and medications literally save tens of families and new born babies. Jesus is love and He created us in His image. This is a “New Beginning” for each of us. It is a year in which destinies will be fulfilled. We, the destiny of you and me, will become complete through Christ Jesus! May we enter in with the fullness of what God intended by becoming the same love He created for us. I am excited to see what the Lord will be doing in your lives this New Year as you become all that He created you to be! Mark 9:36-37 Then he put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms he said to them; Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me. Matthew 10:42 If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded. I pray each of you open your hearts, receive & hear Him speak into your Spirit, your destiny. Receive your reward and the fullness of your destiny this New Year, a year of New Beginnings! All our love and prayers this Christmas, New Year and always! Dr. Faith & Michael Setzer
